5 Fashion Tips To Freshen Up Your Maternity Wardrobe
Pregnancy is such an exciting time in your life. Growing new life inside your belly whilst anticipating your baby’s arrival. However, it also comes with its challenges. As your belly starts to grow it gets a little harder to button up your favourite jeans. But how to shop without breaking the bank and look fabulous? Here are five fashion tips that we hope you find helpful!
- Buy clothing that can adjust with your growing body.
There is no point in spending loads of money on a bunch of clothing that is only going to last a few months. Choose clothing that you can wear during each stage of your pregnancy and beyond. Look for clothing with an adjustable waist, breastfeeding friendly and something you would wear beyond pregnancy.
- Search your wardrobe for existing bump friendly pieces.
You may surprise yourself to know that you already have a few items of clothing that you can wear whilst pregnant. And no I am not saying to scrummage through hubby’s wardrobe for big oversized t-shirts and pants but to stick with what you have. These include pants and skirts with elastic waistlines and flowy dresses. You’ll just need to style your outfit a little differently to go with your bump. An example would be to wear your skirt up around your waist or rather than getting lost in a flowy dress, match it with a cute belt to give yourself a waistline.
- Choose comfortable footwear.
One of the wonderful side effects of pregnancy (can you detect my sarcasm?) can be swelling of the feet. It’s best to swap your heels for flat, comfortable shoes. My go to was Birkenstocks, I could adjust the width of my sandal when my feet were too swollen. Plus, they are super comfy and I still wear them all the time. A pair of Converse shoes also looks super cute with almost any outfit.
- Choose a style that suits you and stick to it.
Everybody is different, pregnant or not pregnant. What may suit one pregnant woman may not look good on another. Try a few different styles of dresses and find what best works for you. Throughout my pregnancy I found figure hugging dresses teamed with a duster or long cardigan worked best for me. I could either dress it down for a casual lunch with the ladies or dress it up for work or dinner.
- Don’t’ discard all your maternity clothing after giving birth.
As mentioned in tip number one, it’s best to select clothing that you can wear post pregnancy too. Select clothing that is breastfeeding friendly to take you through to the next stage of motherhood. If you don’t think you will wear your clothing again and you don’t plan on having any more babies, you could always donate your clothing to a charity or a friend that is expecting. Alternatively, you could always try selling your clothing on Facebook marketplace. This way, you reduce the impact of your carbon footprint by producing less waste.
